Bi-Directional

Bi-Directional steel bodied pigs are designed to travel in either direction in a pipeline. The primary use of Bi-Directional pigs is liquid displacement during the hydrostatic testing stage of construction, but they can also be used for cleaning, separation and batching. All of Apache’s Bi-Directional pigs are fitted with discs made from our wear resistant Reliathane urethane.

UT MANDREL OPTION 6 – 14″ (152 – 356 MM)

The UT mandrel is one very useful pig. Although it’s primary design feature is to house a transmitter located in the center of the slotted universal mandrel, it can also accommodate virtually any configuration of cup, disc and brush. This also allows the pig to clean and batch many dissimilar fluids.

• The UT is the only small diameter steel mandrel pig we manufacture that features a transmitter cavity in the middle of the mandrel to accommodate electronic pig tracking equipment.

• Standard bumper noses cushion the pig and help to protect in-line auxiliary equipment, preventing damage.

• To maximize durability, all discs are made from Reliathane, Apache’s special blend of wear-resistant polyurethane.

• Circular flange brushes in the following types and trim materials:
1. Trim types – flat wire or pencil.
2. Trim material – carbon steel, stainless steel or plastic.

• CARVER discs.

• Aluminum gauge plates in slotted or standard styles.

ED BI-DIRECTIONAL 3 – 14″ (76 – 356 MM)

The Series ED pig is an extremely hardworking pig. With its bi-directional design, it can travel in either direction. When it comes to displacing air and water during hydrostatic testing carried out during construction, the ED pig gets the job done, quickly and efficiently.

Designed to negotiate 1.5D bends, the ED pig moves reliably through piping systems.

Every newly constructed pipeline requires hydrostatic testing, but before that can take place, the line must be immaculate. To achieve this level of cleanliness, Apache offers the rugged EDX, a seriously aggressive cleaning pig. Equipped with sturdy block brushes that forcefully scrub away residue and debris, the primary function of the EDX is to aggressively clean the line before testing, leaving it in a pristine condition, ready for assessment.

Designed to negotiate minimum 3D and greater bends, the EDX pig moves reliably through piping systems.

• The EDX pig is a very economical four-sealing, two-guide disc bi-directional pig. It not only provides a solid seal, its tough, spring-loaded brushes mean that it meticulously cleans line interiors, leaving them free of scale and debris. To enhance versatility, the EDX is manufactured with block brushes that are available in a variety of trim options.

• The pig’s durable guide discs center the sealing discs in the line, forming a quadruple seal that virtually eliminates product by-pass.

• Standard bumper noses cushion the pig and help to protect in-line auxiliary equipment, preventing damage.

• Urethane Plow Blades – Designed to replace a XB block brush, the 3-Rib urethane removes paraffin wax and similar deposits from the pipe wall that normally collect and cram between the bristles of a block brush. Our plow blade profile performs a similar function to the 3-Rib, but is used primarily for pipe sizes 16” – 18”. Both blade types are also excellent tools for removing debris in non-metallic or internally coated pipe without damaging the pipe wall coating.

EDR BI-DIRECTIONAL 6 – 14″ (152 – 356 MM)

Every newly constructed pipeline requires hydrostatic testing, but before that can take place, the line must be very clean. If you’re in search of a pig that provides moderate cleaning capability, Apache offers the EDR. Equipped with sturdy circular flange brushes that forcefully scrub away residue and debris, the primary function of the EDR is to moderately clean the line before testing, leaving it in a pristine condition, ready for assessment.

• The MDK pig features an inner and outer mandrel. Because the inner mandrel withstands the punishing battering inflicted during the construction process, and the exterior disc carrying the outer mandrel remains untouched, the MDK dual mandrel is preferred by mainline contractors, every pig is equipped with a durable guide disc at each end. These discs center the sealing discs in the line, which allows the four sealing discs in the center to form a quadruple seal during displacement.
